What is Life Certificate ?
A life Certificate or Jeevan Praman is an important document issued to the Pensioners by the Indian Government. It is a biometric-enabled service provided to pensioners in India. This certificate is applicable to only those who are an employee of the Central government, State government or any other government organisation. From the Jeevan praman website the Pension Disbursing Agency can check with the life certificate and download the same.
A digital life Certificate (DLC) is given to the pensioners based on their Aadhaar number and biometrics. It means the Jeevan Praman uses the Aadhar card details of pensioners for authentication. Once the verification is done, the Digital life certificate gets stored in a repository, that is accessible to government officials only. The pension releasing agencies will access the certificate online and disburse the pensions respectively.
Life Certificate Benefits
In India, more than 1 crore families are based on pensions. The Pension disbursing agency disperse the pensions as income to such families by various government bodies to maintain sustainability. Around 50 lakhs pensioners are from central government bodies, and the rest of them are from the state government, Union Territories government, and many other government agencies. Life Certificate Validity
A life certificate is not valid for a lifetime. The validity is specified by the Pension Sanctioning Authority as per government norms. After the validity period is over, a new Jeevan pramaan id needs to be generated.
